Education & Outreach

Our Educational Mission

The mission of FLCMF to bring quality live music for the appreciation and participation of our communities is nowhere more evident than in our youth outreach. We totally fund these concerts through donations from our patrons. And students are always admitted to season concerts free!

Every spring our public schools enjoy live concerts at all age levels, and some fortunate music students participate in master classes with our musicians.

In July we go to three camps: Camp Cory, Camp Whitman, and Camp Good Days and Special Times. Camp Cory is a YMCA camp, focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Camp Whitman’s goal is to lovingly accept each person and foster that same love and acceptance in each other, to meet each camper where they are in their personal faith journey, and to provide a fun and safe place to explore and question faith issues. Camp Whitman provides camps for youth & adults with developmental disabilities, which run concurrently with the graded camps each week during the summer season. Camp Good Days is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges. All of the programs and services are offered free of charge for the participants. Participants have the opportunity to regain some of what cancer, sickle cell anemia, or violence has taken away from them.

How do children react to chamber music concerts? Would you believe they clap along? They make requests. They have an opportunity to touch an instrument. They run into Richard on the street and ask, "Do you remember me?" The best review ever: "That was like a piece of heaven. It was like I could SEE the music." (This from a blind young man.)
